We stay at home… What now?

We stay at home… Now what? The coronavirus has changed our routines and put us in an unexpected situation. It is time to be alert to avoid affecting our mood, as well as our personal and family health in these days of home isolation. Below, we specify some aspects to take into account these days:
  • Define schedules and tasks at home. It is necessary to have established schedules, this will help us structure our day and ideas, especially if we have children or adolescents at home. It is important to develop a schedule with our children that includes time to play, punctually participate in virtual sessions organized by the school, review homework, read, listen to music, do creative activities, spend family moments around a board game or a good family gathering in which everyone shares anecdotes or talks about entertaining topics.
  • Establish a meal plan for these days and follow it. To rationally use the resources in our pantry it is necessary to avoid eating due to anxiety. On the other hand, we must consume perishable products first and keep track of the products that we will need to acquire in time, making purchases of basic necessities and hygiene items in a limited and responsible manner.
  • Do not stay attentive to social networks all day looking for information about the coronavirus. Use only appropriate information from reliable sources, discarding exaggerated comments or alarmist messages that only cause confusion, fear and uncertainty.
  • Call family members who are far away. We can do good by providing words of support to our family, trying to provide them with calm and tranquility. Establishing positive and friendly communication networks helps us feel better and makes our family members feel loved and welcomed.
  • Put our creativity to work in our favor. Take advantage of this time to do what we have often wanted to do: read a book that we left on the shelf and had not finished, prepare a new recipe, finally organize that space that needs it so much, etc. It is very important to limit the use of the television and avoid watching series or programs all day.
  • We can and should move. Physical exercise will keep us away from stress and also from illness. To practice a physical routine at home we can download an exercise application or search for them on YouTube. Space is not an excuse, and if we manage to involve the whole family, so much the better.
  • Practice self-care. Sunlight is a vital element for our health and is a source of vitamin D. Therefore, it is very important to take advantage of each day to expose ourselves to sunlight for 20 minutes, on the terrace, window or in our gardens.
  • It’s time to practice Mindfulness. A great tool to focus on the present and on the things that we can do because they are under our control.
